Flash Friday: Final Judgment

The man with the flowing white beard crossed his arms. “Why should I let you into my heaven?”

The businessman shifted his glasses. “Not going to work. Try again.”

“How dare you?” he thundered.

“Look, it doesn’t work this way. I get to ask you the questions. Now, tell me again how you did in measuring up to my standards.” He examined a clipboard.

“Very well! Down you go!”’ He raised a threatening arm.

“Try again. Reverse psychology doesn’t work here. Man has to live up to my standards, not the other way around. You think you’re God. You’re not. That position’s already been filled. So, down you go.”

  1. This was a twist ending I actually saw coming. It’s very Lewisesque. Have you read The Great Divorce? One of my all-time favorite books. If you haven’t, judging from your theme in this story you really ought to.
