He knelt near the little gravestone. He laid his lips on the cold surface, resting his forehead against the marble. A bugle sang out Taps.
He stood, looking down at the tiny marker.
Beside him, the minister intoned, “Brett Tarrington would have fought for his nation as a general, leading troops in numerous battles against the enemy. The chronobullet that took his life killed him two months before he would be born. We commend who he was to be to the Lord, the master of the present and the future, who was, is, and will be, in this and every timeline.”
His mother and father wept. The honor guard saluted.
