“I don’t need to get ready. I’m not the one piloting through chronospace.” Gary wrinkled his nose.
“You’ll still get there, sure, but you won’t enjoy the ride.” His mother knelt beside him. “Now, swallow the capsules.”
“Why can’t we take the temporal portal instead?”
“Because.” His mother sighed. “The destination is better for the journey.”
“But it’s faster,” Gary sulked.
“Faster is only better when you’re ready to arrive. You’re not ready. Arriving early will rob you of its splendor.”
“But Billy gets to go to Christmas right away without getting ready!”
His mother smiled. “And Billy will never understand the real joy of Christmas.”
