“If Santa was real, he’d bring me presents!” Marcia sulked.
“Marcia, sweetie, of course Santa’s real.” Bev knelt next to her. “But he only brings presents to certain people.”
“What do you mean?”
“Santa only brings presents to good girls and boys. Girls and boys who never misbehave.”
“Really? That good?”
Bev offered a sad smile. “Apparently Santa disagrees.”
“That’s not fair!”
Bev hugged her. “See, Santa’s real, but he’s not so nice. He only gives presents to people who behave. He’s fair. I’m not. I love you anyway.” She gave her daughter a kiss. “So don’t expect presents from Santa. But expect a bunch from me.”
