“Five to four. Everyone ready for the countdown?” He searched the crowd. Betsy was by the punchbowl. Again. “Get over here! W gotta kiss when the bell rings!”
Betsy shrugged. “I just can’t get into it. I miss midnight.” She wiped the sweat off her forehead. “Why can’t it be in winter anymore?”
“We still get all the best traditions.” He pulled her closer and puckered.
“Men! The world’s about money and sex for you!” She shoved him and strode past the TV. It displayed a countdown to the close of the NYSE, on the last day of the fiscal year.
The only kind of year that counted anymore.
