Aftermath: Gratitude

Jalima swore. “What do you think? I save the day. I rescue the earth. Look at me now! Garbage woman for a planet! ‘Clean up the mess you made.’ That’s gratitude!”

Piotr nodded. “Yes. I have faced a similar problem. No one will hire a man who knows only how to destroy aliens. But, I have a proposal for you.”

Three months later, Jalima wasn’t swearing.

The president presented the medal. “The invasion threatened to destroy our way of life. The clean-up afterward nearly succeeded. But you two created and implemented technology that hunts down and eliminates alien devices. You have rescued the earth twice. You have our eternal gratitude.”

This story follows Aftermath: Clean-Up and Aftermath: Job Security.
